Braided snake bun hairstyle tutorial

Bun hairstyles have been around for a very long time, pretty much since the dawn of time in fact. As a pillar of the hairstyle world, you might think that this nifty little updo has already fulfilled its styling potential… but you would be wrong. Behold the snake braid bun!

It’s a sleek, chic, snappy little thing and one that isn’t actually as complicated as you might think, based on first impressions.

What is it?

A snake braid bun is a hairstyle that works best with longer haircuts and can be broken down into a few simple components. It’s essentially a sleek straight hairstyle, divided into two low pigtails, and then fishtail braided before being wound into a bun. It’s not so intricate when you think of it like that!

How to get the look

Unless your hair is naturally straight (ish) already, you’ll need to style it a little before you start the bun.

The prep: Blow-dry using Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Frizz Vanisher Cream and a large barrel brush. After that, mist with Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Strand Smoother Serum Spray for an ultra-sleek feel.

The bun: Take a tail comb and define a center part. Carry the line all the way back and divide your hair into two equal sections. Secure both into low pigtails and secure with small, ideally transparent, hair elastics. Braid each pigtail quite tightly, either in a fishtail or regular style – whichever you like best. Fasten at the ends with yet more hair elastics and then wind the braids around each other, zig-zagging from side to side. Secure with bobby pins as you go.

The finishing touch: To complete your look, mist with Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray to make sure your snake braid bun lasts all day long!
