Braided updo tutorial: double French braided bun

Now that spring 2024 is just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to look back at some of the prettiest catwalk hairstyles from the Spring-Summer 2014 Fashion Weeks…. which took place last fall, but that’s fashion for you! This gorgeous braided updo, as seen at the Moschino Spring ’14 show in Milan is definitely one of our favorites.

Whether you have a wedding to plan, are just keen to get a (major) head start on your prom look this year, (or you just love braids,) this hairstyle could be just what you’re looking for.

It looks really intricate (read: difficult) but in actual fact, it’s quite a simple updo to realize. If you think of it as two loose French braid pigtails and a bun, it suddenly doesn’t seem so bad! Keep reading to find out just how to get the look…

What you need:

Tail comb
Large clip (optional)
Two hair elastics (ideally transparent ones)
Bobby pins
Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray

Step one: Start by combing your hair through to remove any knots or tangles. This will make the whole styling process a lot easier!

Step two: Use a tail comb to define a straight center part and divide your hair into two equal (ish) halves. Gather them into two loose pigtails and secure one with a hair elastic or clip while you work on the other.

Step three: French braid each pigtail all the way down to the nape of your neck and secure both of them just above the middle of your neck with two small hair elastics.

Step four: Gather the lengths of the two pigtails and twist them together, then wrap the hair around to form a bun. Secure with bobby pins.

Step five: Use more bobby pins to secure any loose parts, and to tame any major or unwanted flyaways. For a more romantic feel, tease a few strands of hair loose at the front to frame your face and generally soften the look. Finish with a generous mist of Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray, and you’re done!

Top tip – Add some floral accessories for a girly springtime feel.

There you have it. A fresh look that is, essentially, two classic looks rolled into one… literally!
